Helping the poor and doing good work are parts of the Kingdom’s mandate, for every believer. Believers are called into good works; prepared unto good works, admonished to increase in good works, expected to be established in good works, and encouraged to desire for good works. We are to follow and be obedient unto every good work diligently.
Every believer is to be ready for every good work and we must be fruitful and be made perfect in every good work because this is well pleasing in the sight of God our Father. The good thing about God’s demand on us for good works is that He works in us both to will and do of His good pleasure. Being good and doing good is godly.
When we embrace God’s call to good works, it not only makes our lives relevant in our communities, but it also becomes a reflection, or an expression of His goodness, in our generation.
Dorcas became so relevant, through her commitment to good works and helping the poor, such that when she died, those who benefited from her deeds were unwilling to let her soul go to the great beyond.
“…and all the widows stood by him weeping, and showing the coats and garments which Dorcas made, while she was with them.” -(Acts 9:39). What are you doing with God’s call upon your life? You don’t have to wait till you have great possession; start with what you have, and where you are.
If you are waiting for a perfect moment, you will do nothing. The poor, the widows, the orphans, and the sick, are not far from you; extend the love of God to them; that is what we are called to do as believers, to increase in good works.
The Bible says, “Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, to visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world. -(James 1:27)
What obstacles do you face in proving God’s goodness to those around you?
Father, use me as a channel of blessing, to the people around me, in Jesus’ name.
