Gratitude for Great Deliverance

Devotional Thought

Here is the takeaway from our text today in Judges 15:18, Gratitude should be the immediate response, after a great deliverance. Gratitude to God, not to our skills and strategies. If God is the reason for our victory, then the glory should not go to any other.

When Samson was tied, and handed over to the Philistines, the Spirit of the Lord came upon him, and the ropes on his arms were broken. He picked a jawbone of a donkey, and he killed one thousand men. I think an ordinary jawbone cannot kill a man.

The truth is, anything in the hand of any man anointed, by the Spirit of God, no matter how weak, or insignificant, can achieve the unbelievable. It was like the stones of David, that brought down the giant.

The Power Behind the Man the Wins

It is not about the stones, but, it is about the Spirit behind the man, that threw the stone. Yes, it is not about the jawbone; it is about the Spirit, behind the man, that held the jawbone. Don’t ever think it is the size of your resources, or the strength of your network, that determines the outcome of your life; it is your connection, with the living God.

Please, as your testimonies begin to roll in, because they will, I say with all conviction, don’t fall into the error of Samson. After Samson had experienced the great deliverance, he was so excited, that the excitement beclouded his sense of judgement.

Rather than expressing gratitude to God, he began to praise himself, and the jawbone of a donkey. When he became thirsty, and there was no water in sight, then he remembered, that his victory was of the Lord, and the glory belongs to Him.

The bible says, “…so he cried out to the Lord and said, “You have given this great deliverance by the hand of Your servant; and now shall I die of thirst and fall into the hand of the uncircumcised?”. When he returned the glory to God, the Lord responded with another miracle.

Father, exalt my horn, like the horn of the unicorn, and anoint me with fresh oil, in Jesus’ name.
