In our text today Jesus said something, that I think reveals what the Father looks forward to hearing, from every believer. He said, “I always do those things that please Him.” It will be the Father’s delight to see every believer living to please Him.
Paul caught the importance of living to please Him, so much that he made it his main objective in life and ministry. He said, “Therefore we make it our aim, whether present or absent, to be well-pleasing to Him.”
The writer of the book of Hebrew told us what we needed, to please the Father. The Bible says, ‘but without faith, it is impossible to please Him. So, faith is needed, to please the Father. Thank God, every believer has a measure faith, that is why we are called believers.
We know as God’s children, that we have to please God, and we already have faith to please Him. However, we need to know those things that please Him. But before we go further, we need to remind ourselves, that we are not talking about a servant pleasing his Master, but a son pleasing His Father. It is not a law, but a love affair, between the Father and His children.
This brings to mind, the story of Isaac, the father of Esau and Jacob. He said to Esau, “make me savoury food such as I love and bring it to me that I may eat. Esau and Jacob may have little, or no knowledge about how to prepare the savoury food, as their father loves, but Rebekah had always prepared it for him. All they need to do was to seek Rebekah’s assistance.
As believers we wouldn’t search for too long, to know ‘those things that please Him’, because the Holy Spirit is within us. The bible says, no one knows the things of God, except the Spirit of God. Thus, in our mission to living to please Him, we need to engage the Holy Spirit’s assistance. It is one of the reasons, He is here with us, to reveal to us those things that please Him.
How important is the issue of pleasing God in our everyday life?
Father, help me by Your Spirit to do those things that please You, in Jesus’ name.
