Romans 12:2 (NCV) “Do not be shaped by this world; instead be changed within by a new way of thinking. Then you will be able to decide what God wants for you; you will know what is good and pleasing to him and what is perfect.”
It is possible to know, what God wants for you. Many believers, find it difficult to discern or decide, what God wants for them. Yet, God’s plans and purposes are easily discernable. The Holy Spirit, speaking through Paul gave us two commands, that can help a believer on how to decide what God wants for them.
The first command says, “Do not be shaped by the world.” When we were in the world, the totality of what shapes our desire, are the things in the world. And now that we are in Christ, unconsciously our thinking patterns and processes are still influenced by the world system.
Surprisingly, the things that appeal to us, are the things in vogue in the world. Similarly, our taste and desires are shaped, with what is acceptable by the world standards. Apostle John categorised, what draws us away from what God wants, as the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life. They shape our thinking and desires in life. Thus, the necessity for the second command.
The second command says, “… be changed within by a new way of thinking…” We need to transition, from world-based thinking into word-based thinking. Surely, as long as you value, what is obtainable in the world above what is available in the word, you will always struggle with, what is good and pleasing in the sight of God for your life.
There is nothing in the world, that can be compared with, what God’s plan for you. Let the word of God begin, to shape your thinking and your taste. God has the best for you, and He wants you to know and enjoy it.
What in the world attracts you, more than what God wants for you?
Father, I gain victory over the struggle with the things of this world, in Jesus’ name.
