Philippians 4:4 (HCSB) “Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!”
Everyone looks forward to rejoicing every day, if not every second. Rejoicing is a natural human response- when our requests are favorably granted, our prayers are answered, our trial suddenly turns into triumph, and our testing turns out into testimonies, then we rejoice. What is the secret to deliberate rejoicing?
Everyone prefers spontaneous rejoicing to deliberate rejoicing. We all like to see something that stirs up a moment of rejoicing in our lives, and we always reserve our rejoicing, for such a moment. It is considered absurd to see a man rejoicing, without proof that something good has happened.
Despite our natural human orientation about rejoicing, The Bible says, “Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!” So, what is the secret to rejoicing always?
Our rejoicing must never be based on what is happening in the world, but on what is happening in the Lord. There will be many reasons for anxiety in the world, but in the Lord, there will always be enough reasons for rejoicing. Jesus says, in the world, you will have tribulation, but be of good cheer, because I have overcome the world.
Maybe, as you are reading this devotional this morning, you are reading with a heavy heart, because of the events of your life. You are wondering whether the change will ever come. Can you for a moment, take your mind off your challenges, and flashback, on God’s past faithfulness and goodness in your life?
If you remember one good thing the Lord did in your life this year, make it a point of deliberately rejoicing and praising Him. Go out this morning deliberately rejoicing, and singing in appreciation of God’s faithfulness, despite what is yet to happen, or what is happening.
Father, let a season of refreshing and rejoicing come into my life this month in the name of Jesus Christ.
How can we keep rejoicing amid the current situation in our world?
