Wonders can be a recurring event in our lives, but there is a secret to recurring wonders. The men of Ephraim, one of the tribes of Israel, had always enjoyed victories in battles, because of the Lord’s faithfulness to His covenant with Abraham. But their experience in our text this morning, was that of defeat.
What can make men who have had countless victories over life’s battles, come to the place of defeat in life? What can turn a testimony of victory, into that of defeat; success into failure, prosperity into poverty?
The Bible did not hide from us the reason, why the men of Ephraim were defeated in battle. Among the few reasons for their defeat was that they forgot what the Lord had done and the wonders He had shown them.
Their past victories were not the result of their might; it was a result of the wonders shown by the Lord. The Bible says, “They forgot what He had done, the wonders He had shown them.” -(Psalms 78:11). Forgetting the wonders, the Lord had shown in the past battles, implies they did not rely on His wonders, in the present battles.
They were not like David, who remembered and recounted the wonders of God in his victory over the lion and the bear, just before he confronted Goliath. David said, the same God who delivered me from the paw of the lion, and from the foot of the bear will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine.
Do not let the pressure of what you are going through today, cause you to forget the faithfulness of the Lord, who saw you through yesterday. Approach every fresh confrontation, no matter how severe, by acknowledging and celebrating the wonders of God in the past.
Let the devil know, that the same God that gave you victory in the past, remains faithful today. Recounting yesterday’s wonders, in the face of today’s warfare, draws on heaven’s resources to give you renewed strength for fresh victory. The secret to recurring wonders lies in recollecting, and appreciating past wonders.
How often should we remind ourselves of God’s faithfulness in our lives?
Father, thank You for yesterday’s testimony; I look forward to new wonder today, in Jesus’ name.
