It Seems Good to the Holy Ghost

Acts 15:28 (NKJV) “For it seemed good to the Holy Ghost, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things.”

Devotional Thought

Believers must learn to restrain from finalizing a decision until their conclusion aligns with what seems good to the Holy Ghost. Paul and Barnabas’ work among the Gentiles is prospering as more Gentiles come to the faith. During this growth, certain men came down from Judea and taught that unless the Gentiles were circumcised according to the custom of Moses, they were not saved.

To clarify this issue, a delegate led by Paul and Barnabas went to Jerusalem’s Apostles and elders. After some deliberation, the apostles and the elders concluded on the subject, and a letter was sent to the disciples in Antioch, explaining the church’s stand.

I like how the letter was worded because it revealed who is in charge of the church. The Bible says, “For it seemed good to the Holy Ghost, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things” (Acts 15:28)

It wasn’t just a decision made by the board of the apostles and elders; it was a decision made with due consultation with the Holy Spirit, the Person in charge of the church. One version of the Bible says, “For it was the Holy Spirit’s decision and ours…” (CSB).

Give the Holy Spirit His Place.

We must come to the place in our walk with God where in our decision-making, the Holy Spirit is accorded His rightful place not only in our spiritual life but also in our everyday decision-making.

Can you imagine a nation where the Holy Spirit is pre-eminent in governmental deliberations? Imagine an organization where the Holy Spirit is offered a seat to preside over strategic planning meetings. Can you imagine if, in our families, the Holy Spirit is honored as the Chief Counsellor?

Then we will see righteousness, peace, and joy in our nations, organizations, and families. Before you take any steps this month, please check with the Holy Spirit. Don’t run by your feelings; run by the leading of the Holy Spirit. You shouldn’t just approve things because they seem reasonable to you but because they appear good to the Holy Spirit.

Let’s Talk About It.

What hinders you from allowing the Holy Spirit His place in your life?
