Galatians 4:1 (KJV) “Now I say, that the heir, as long as he is a child, differeth nothing from a servant, though he be lord of all;”
Sonship is the highest level of relationship that humanity can have with God. In the Old Testament, God has servants and friends among His people, but no son. The highest level of relationship they had with God was friendship.
There are many servants, but few friends of God; and they enjoyed some level of intimacy with God. The scripture says, “Surely the Lord God does nothing, unless He reveals the secret to His servants the prophets.” God talking about Abraham says, “Shall I hide from Abraham what I am doing”? Secret things become revealed things, within the boundary of intimacy.
There must be certain level of intimacy between you and God, for there to be any degree of revelation. The deeper your relationship gets with God, the deeper the things He reveals to you. Though, as servants and friends of God, the Old Testament saints enjoyed intimacy with God, but Christ the Son says, what the servants know is nothing, compared to what friends know, and whatever knowledge they both claim, comes through the Son.
The Son reveals the Father. Christ did not just come to make us servants, or friends of God, He came to make us sons of God. When we came to Christ, He gave us the power, to become sons of God. The process of sonship begins at salvation. Jesus was born as a child, he was found in the temple as a boy, and He was given to us, as a Son. We also need to move from being a child, to being a son. A child cannot handle deep things.
As long as a child refuses to grow, he limits himself, to what is available to a servant. The bible says, “Now I say, that the heir, as long as he is a child, differeth nothing from a servant, though he be lord of all;” Don’t settle for less, when God has reserved the best for you. We need to grow up, there are great and mighty things that we cannot handle, at our present level of growth, that God is eager, to make known to us.
What are the steps you will take this week, to extend the boundary of your intimacy with God?
Father, I receive grace for accelerated growth in the spirit, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
