Extraordinary acts of generosity are the key to securing unique supplies from His riches in glory. The Philippians church was one of the churches planted by Paul the apostle. It is one church that demonstrated and communicated its love for Paul and his ministry with its generous support. When Paul was leaving Macedonia, to embark on another missionary journey, they sent Paul forth with abundant provision.
While Paul was in Thessalonica, they sent, once and again, provisions to minister to Paul’s needs, on the mission field. When Paul wrote to them, he acknowledged and appreciated their generous support for him, but he did not stop at just appreciating; he went further by releasing an apostolic blessing upon them.
Paul says, “But my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” –(Philippians 4:19). The Philippians’ generosity provoked the release of this apostolic declaration.
Paul says that no church has communicated this depth of love for God’s work in his hand, as the Philippians church. Thus, you will never see this kind of prayer, or utterance in any of the epistles of Paul, to other churches.
Please, notice it was not an utterance made from greed, or out of a desire for more, but out of Paul’s appreciation for their generosity. The church’s generosity provoked this prayer from Paul, but the Spirit of the Lord inspired Paul to make the declaration.
When you look at that prayer very well, there are principles we can take home from it. Our commitment to the furtherance of the gospel, through our generosity, can unleash unusual anointing and blessing upon our lives.
When what we have, becomes the provision for the need in His work, what He has becomes the provision for the need in our lives. When we open our hands to supply, for the need of the gospel, He opens His riches in glory, to supply all our needs.
Knowing God as an impartial God, you will not expect to receive through praying, what your brother received through extraordinary acts of generosity.
How do you show your love for God and His work?
Father, I receive the ability and the capacity, to minister to the need in Your work, in Jesus’ name.
