Here is the question the Holy Spirit placed in my heart when I read our text this morning. “What will you do if the need to fulfill your purpose clashes with the need to defend your right?” What will your choice be, your purpose or your right?
Jesus says, “Or do you think that I cannot now pray to My Father, and He will provide Me with more than twelve legions of angels? “How then could the Scriptures be fulfilled, that it must happen thus?” Matthew 26:53-54 (NKJV)
Our text reveals Jesus’ choice: He chose to fulfill His purpose above defending His right. He could have called for angelic reinforcement to protect Himself from the crowd, but He wouldn’t because the fulfillment of His purpose is at stake. It wasn’t an easy decision, but it was the best one.
Can you imagine how many purposes must have been postponed or aborted because men and women of purpose could not control their emotions? Some battles must be avoided because of God’s purpose for your life.
When God commanded Joseph to leave for Egypt with the young Child and His mother, He wasn’t terrified of Herod. It wasn’t about being afraid of Herod; it was about preserving purpose.
You are a person with a purpose, and like Jesus, you should prioritize fulfilling your purpose above defending your rights. Don’t let your emotions influence your decision; let the Holy Spirit lead you.
You know the assurance we have! The scripture says, “all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.”
What they did to Jesus was all for His good, which all added to the complete fulfillment of God’s purpose for His advent. It will not be any different in your case; they may deprive you of your rights, but they cannot deprive you of your purpose.
Can I sacrifice my right for the fulfillment of God’s purpose?
Father, help me to discern when the purpose is at stake in defending my right, in Jesus’ name.
Do you find yourself sometimes wearied, with no strength to continue your journey?
